Paws and Trails, LLC

Welcome!

Originally started as Skye Dog Training NW during the Pandemic of 2020, we have rebranded and expanded as Paws and Trails. Our goal is to apply a methodical, results-oriented method of training and engagement that is focused on what's best for your pup with an understanding that all dogs have unique needs and personalities.

Paws and Trails is a minority-owned business that  operates on the Positive Reinforcement training principles outlined within the LIMA Position Statement.

As you read below, remember each of these pictures is of an actual and ecstatic pup in trainer Becky Skye's care. All electronic collars are GPS transmitter collars for safety.

The Approach

Becky is driven by a fervent passion for applying science-based methods of behavior change that are effective while upholding ethical principles. Behavior modification inherently involves a certain degree of intervention. Anyone who has attempted to overcome a fear understands that this process can be more challenging than simply avoiding the source of fear. Even though the desired outcome of conquering fear is appealing, the journey to get there can be demanding. When it comes to canines (or other animals), effecting behavioral change can be especially demanding due to our inability to communicate our intentions to them.

With a commitment to ethical and effective approaches, Becky strives to implement the least invasive and minimally aversive (LIMA) methods, seeking solutions that satisfy both the dog and the handler. This commitment entails a thorough assessment of the dog's lifestyle to ensure its fundamental needs are met. A dog's disposition is shaped by its breed, genetics, past experiences, environment, and personality. Each dog possesses a distinct set of physical, mental, and emotional requirements. Once all the necessary needs are fulfilled, any remaining fears and anxieties are addressed using techniques that align with the principles of humane hierarchy.

I am a Trainer-in-Training with over 30+ years of experience raising, training, running, walking and taking care of dogs, cats and other animals.

I grew up on my grandmother’s farm, where my grandmother taught me how to train dogs and animal husbandry.  There were a variety of animals on the farm; mostly cows, chickens, dogs, cats, geese, pigs and the occasional horse.  I continued my animal education by working at several animal rescues in a variety of positions.

After decades of experience with working with animals both professionally and in volunteer positions - I am happy to provide training and other services to owners in the Beaverton and Hillsboro communities!
